To combat reading loss during the summer months and help families overcome learning challenges, the One for All Foundation supported the office by teaming up with the Children’s Defense Fund to add the CDF Freedom Schools® program to the summer and after-school enrichment programs at the Youth Education Town Center in Houston’s Fifth Ward neighborhood and at the Lincoln Park Community Center in the Acres Homes community. The research-based and multicultural program model will support up to 100 K-12 scholars and their families through five essential components: high-quality academic and character-building enrichment; parent and family involvement; civic engagement and social action; intergenerational servant leadership development; and nutrition, health, and emotional wellness. This holistic approach will help to address the negative learning impact our children may experience and give families tools they can use throughout the school year and summer to better support their students.
