North East Adolescent Program
The Northeast Adolescent Program is a collaborative effort between the Houston Independent School District, Baylor College of Medicine, Harris County Hospital District, Harris County Precinct One, and the March of Dimes. The program addresses the problems of teen pregnancy and infant mortality.
Teaching teens to make smart and healthy choices may include:
- Classes, small-group discussions, seminars and workshops, and individual instruction about teen parenting and related issues; male outreach intervention activities; presentations by guest speakers; and information about health-care providers. Topics such as health and human sexuality are also discussed. Another program component includes peer assistance leadership, as well as training teens to become peer helpers.
- Community groups and agencies will assist schools as resources to enhance their particular programs.
- Comprehensive case management which includes assessing teens’ need and assisting them in accessing those services in the Houston community.
- Male Outreach services that involve young men in activities to promote responsibility.
